Public Speaking Tip: Improve Flow with Gestures

by Lily Iatridis on February 5, 2010

If you’re relating a story or event to a group of listeners, allow yourself to gesture freely.  A recent study in public speaking by psychologist Frances Rauscher and her team indicated that people who gesture freely while speaking find the words they’re seeking much more easily than speakers who keep their hands stricly by their side or on a podium, resulting a in more smooth, flowing presentation.  Additionally, gesturing attracts the audience’s attention, so don’t hold back!
